Making Sense of it All

Green Acres Baptist Church, Tyler TX. January 2005. Started Friday 12 Noon, finished Sunday evening at 8:PM.

  • In-place upgrade of 2 Windows Server 2000 Domain Controllers to Server 2003.
  • Installed new Server 2003/Exchange 2003 mail & collaboration server and moved 100 clients and their workstations from POP/.pst to Outlook/Exchange.
  • Installed 2.0 TB AIT tape autoloader and associated Network Attached Storage server for two stage backup system. Installed and configured Veritas Backup Exec and Remote Agent for Exchange to archive data across all servers.
  • Installed two new Server 2003 Terminal Servers with all required applications and began the deployment of Windows Terminal appliances to an eventual 40 clients.
  • Configured Organizational Units, Group Policy Objects, Active Directory Groups and logon scripting to provide security for servers and workstations while allowing users access to all required network resources. Also used Windows Installer to deploy enterprise anti-virus and anti-spyware solutions across entire network.
  • During upgrade of existing file server, the ATA RAID controller hiccuped and the resulting installation of Server 2003 was not stable. No errors, but not all services were performing to our expectation. We archived all user and group files, did a fresh install of Server 2003 operating system, restored the backup and reestablished all file shares and network services.  An unexpected challenge the customer didn’t have to worry about.
  • A long, hard weekend for both the Higher Ground Techs and the Church IT Staff to be sure. Done right, on budget and fully operational Monday morning?  Absolutely!

A large metropolitan church is moving into a new, temporary facility, located in multiple buildings. HGT is responsible for:

  • Selection of a new integrated voice and e-mail telephony system than can eventually make the transition into the permanent facility
  • Installation of the wiring and the new phone system
  • Designing a network system that links the various buildings internally and economically provides internet services for all buildings.
  • Setting up PCs and primary computer applications at new locations for over 100 staff members, helping the move to be accomplished efficiently
